West Wood How to Bash Doors

Door bashing is one of the most important mechanical additions in the West Wood Remake. In the original game, a locked door meant the squad either had the key or could not enter. In the Remake, players can break doors open — which means you can get in, but it also means the creature can hear the noise.

When to Bash a Door

Friendly Lockout

The most common reason to bash: a teammate is on the wrong side of a locked door. This happens more than you would expect — someone misjudges the door, someone runs through the wrong exit, someone panics and shuts a door behind them during a chase.

Always bash before leaving a teammate outside at night. The creature can appear at any moment and your squadmate outside is vulnerable with no safehouse.

Emergency Entry

If you need to reach something urgent inside a locked building — a contract item, a supply cache, a squadmate who ran inside — bash the door rather than waiting for the owner to open it from inside.

Loot Access

Some storage containers and rooms require a door to be opened. If the key is unavailable and the loot behind the door is worth the noise, bash it.

When Not to Bash

During Active Creature Presence

Bashing a door makes a loud noise that will attract the creature toward your position. If the creature is already patrolling your area, do not bash. Find another entrance or wait for the creature to leave before making noise.

Near Other Players You Cannot Identify

If you hear someone inside a building but cannot confirm they are on your squad, do not bash the door. You may be breaking into an enemy or neutral player’s safehouse, which creates unnecessary conflict.

How to Bash a Door

The exact binding may vary by build — check the current controls on the PC Controls page. Generally:

1. Stand in front of the locked door
2. Hold the interaction key (E on PC) or use the bashing binding
3. The animation plays and the door breaks open

Bashing consumes time and makes noise. Budget for both before committing.

Noise and Creature Attraction

The creature in West Wood is highly sensitive to sound. Bashing a door is one of the loudest actions you can take. After bashing:

• Assume the creature knows your position
• Move quickly to the objective and exit, or retreat to a fallback safehouse
• Do not linger inside the building you just broke into

Friendly Fire Prevention

If your squadmate is inside the building and you bash the door, announce it over voice chat immediately so they know you are not an attacker. Confusion during a bash can cause friendly fire if the teammate thinks you are the creature trying to break in.

Post-Bash Protocol

1. Enter and complete your objective quickly
2. If the teammate was inside, confirm they are safe
3. If the building is now a compromised safehouse, plan to rotate to a fallback
4. Note which buildings in your route have bashable doors — future lockouts become faster to resolve

Bashing vs. Keys

Bashing is louder but faster than finding a key. Keys are silent but require searching structures. In a well-coordinated squad:

• One player searches for keys during loot runs
• The other players focus on contracts and supply collection
• Keys saved for high-value doors; bashing used for emergency entry
