West Wood Risk System Explained

How actions stack risk and how the creature reacts at higher tiers.

Risk System — Thresholds, Sources, and AI Effects

The Risk System in West Wood tracks how aggressively you have provoked the creature and the world around you. It is the single most important survival meter outside of health and stamina, because raising your risk changes creature behaviour, increases Blood Moon chance, and unlocks the You’re In Danger badge at 50 and the highest badge tier around 100. The numerical values below come from community wikis (west-wood-remake.fandom.com/wiki/Risk_System), TrophiesHunter badge lists, and direct badge-API checks — Roblox has never published an official table, so treat the numbers as the best public estimate and verify on your current server.

Confirmed risk sources

The Risk System page on west-wood-remake.fandom.com publishes a per-action breakdown that the broader community accepts:

  • Bear trap stepped by creature — +8 risk.
  • Surviving a full night — +10 risk.
  • Getting hit by the creature — +2 risk.

These are the actions that add risk. Actions that lower risk are not publicly documented; the badge descriptions do not confirm a sink mechanic. If you believe you have spotted a decrease, verify on a private server before reporting.

Thresholds and creature changes

The wiki tracks three behavioural breakpoints:

  • 70+ risk — the creature can start ignoring bear traps. Trap-heavy strategies become less reliable at this point, which is why veteran squads rotate who places traps and who runs.
  • 80+ risk — community reports (not yet badge-confirmed) describe faster creature movement.
  • 100 risk — the creature reaches its most aggressive state and the highest badges become earnable in the same run.

The exact AI tweaks at each tier are not first-party published. Use these as planning targets rather than exact guarantees.

Badge validation

The Remake badge API confirms two risk milestones as of August 27, 2026:

  1. You’re In Danger (ID 3826037037748900) — awarded at risk 50.
  2. A second risk-tier badge exists for the 100 bracket (visible on TrophiesHunter and corroborated by the badge API count of 23 enabled badges).

The badge description only confirms “reach risk 50” — it does not state that the creature becomes faster or that you take more damage. Inferring gameplay effects from the badge name is a common pitfall.

Strategy by risk range

Use the meter as a long-game tool:

  • 0–30 risk (fresh run) — use this window for learning routes, opening contracts, and stocking consumables. Avoid baiting the creature for a trap bait; the badge is not worth a death yet.
  • 30–60 risk (mid-game) — start using bear traps intentionally at door choke points. Each successful trap adds 8 risk without taking damage. Save the You’re In Danger badge as your first risk goal.
  • 60–90 risk (high alert) — rotate safehouses more often because traps now fail. Keep sprint fully charged and a teammate within voice range. Start saving items for the Blood Moon form.
  • 90+ risk (danger tier) — only attempt this with a full squad and confirmed fallback routes. The creature is faster, bear traps may not fire, and any error becomes a no-death streak reset.

Blood Moon connection

Multiple community sources tie higher risk to a Blood Moon event window. The Blood Moon Wendigo has 40–50 damage (compared to 25–30 base) and is larger and faster. The Risk System page treats this as a high-risk consequence, not a separate game mode. Plan Blood Moon survival with full squad, full flamethrower, and a defensive rotation through at least three structures.

How to lower risk safely

Because no public documentation confirms a risk sink, the only safe path to lower risk is to end the run. Veteran strategy:

  • Run a high-risk night only when you have time to recover with daylight prep the next day.
  • Save the 100 risk badge for a session where you are willing to wipe.
  • Pair the You’re In Danger badge with the night-delivery badges so a failed run still produces one award.

Cross-link Wendigo Jerry for damage numbers, Night Deliveries for badge pairings, and Badge Tracker for progress.

Evidence note

Risk numbers come from community wikis (west-wood-remake.fandom.com/wiki/Risk_System) cross-checked against the official badge API. Treat them as accurate on the original West Wood place and as a reference for Remake parity. The exact 70, 80, and 100 thresholds and the AI changes at each tier require current in-game confirmation on the Remake build.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What raises risk in West Wood?

Confirmed: bear trap stepped (+8), surviving a night (+10), and getting hit (+2). Community trackers document these from repeated tests.

What does 50 risk do?

It unlocks the You're In Danger badge. It does not, by itself, change creature speed or damage — community trackers describe escalating AI behaviour at 70+.

Does bear trap still work at high risk?

Community reports say bear traps can be ignored at 70+ risk. Rotate safehouses and keep sprint free when crossing that threshold.

Can risk decrease?

No public source documents a risk sink. The only safe way to lower risk is to end the run and start a new server.
